What you should know about Horizons Regional Council

The Manawatu Wanganui Local Authority Shared Services MW LASS was created in 2008 to do just that and is made up of seven of the councils in our Region. The main idea of MW LASS is working together to find ways to provide services at a cheaper cost or in a more productive way

Horizons' land management work focuses on reducing erosion, protecting soil health and encouraging sustainable use of our land resources. In addition to swim spot monitoring, Horizons undertakes a number of programmed to proactively improve water quality. We can also promote further learning through environmental educator or our competent emergency management officers.
Instead emergency management in our Region is coordinated via our Polite defense Emergency Management chem Group which is based on regional boundaries and combines local councils, emergency services, health boards and other organizations to take a highly coordinated approach to emergency management. At Horizons Regional Council we work to make our Region a huge deposit to live, work and play. We also provide advice on any resource consents that may be required from us. Our Road Safety Coordinators work to educate the community in a number of areas. At Horizons, we lead the Region's response to spontaneous disasters and labor to enlarge community resilience through coordination of the Manawatu Wanganui Polite defense and Emergency Management Group.
The Plan is a fresh document and replaces the Horizons Regional Land Transport Strategy and Regional Land Transport programmed. In addition to the One Plan we have an operative Regional Air Plan January 199 to manage and improve the air quality in the Region. The Regional Land Transport Plan for Horizons has been developed by the Regional Transport Committee. We recognize the importance of being healthy informed, and that is why every week during summer we will be monitoring the health of over 80 swim spots to yield you with stable information on the potential health risks in our waterways.

However, as the One Plan only contains flood hazard policies, not rules, our role is to provide city and district councils, as building consent authorities, with handy data to help with decision making around plan changes and subdivision development. Horizons is responsible for dam activities within the Region and our district advice coordinator is available to aid with consent applications.
The Resource Management Act and Horizons Regional Council Regional Plans enclose rules and guidelines to manage the natural and physical resources of the Horizons' region. Horizons Regional Council have different application forms for the various types of resource consents.
