What you should know about Fly My Sky

Helicopter in Ruapehu

Fly My Sky is based at Auckland Airport operating four twin engine, 10 seat, Britten Norman Islander aircraft several times daily to Great Barrier Island. The aircraft are purpose built to use for groups wanting to Sky Taxi to country fields, hotels, lodges and outdoor experiences. Fly My Sky transports business people, family groups, international visitors, parachute trainees, government officials and VIPs. Our Sky Taxi service is an opportunity to avoid traffic while transported to skiing, hunting, fishing, sightseeing, trekking, and remote luxury lodges.
Fly My Sky personnel are knowledgeable about what they do, years of experience and continuous improvement has shaped this understanding. Keith Robyn McKenzie started operating Commercial Helicopters Ltd in 1980. He received a Queen’s Service Medal QSM for Public Service in September 2001. The helicopter is regularly used by scientists studying and testing the thermal and volcanic activity in the hot Crater Lake of Mt Ruapehu, for film shoots and magazine photography.
During the early part of 2004 Keith developed a tree trimmer which hangs 50 to 150 feet below the helicopter for the purpose of cutting back trees intruding into areas around remote power lines. Robyn McKenzie has a background in theatre nursing with a specific interest in quality assessment and management. She is trained as a Business Excellence Assessor using the Baldrige Criteria and became an assessor for the NZ Business Development Awards now known as NZ Business Excellence Awards . Fly My Sky has been recognised as one of New Zealand’s leading visitor activity service providers by being licensed to use the Qualmark New Zealand tourism’s official quality mark. The assessment criteria have been developed with the tourism industry and are based on research into safety, facilities, customer service, business operations and more.
Owners, Keith and Robyn McKenzie, say the Qualmark helps build credibility with domestic and international visitors alike. The Qualmark puts the brand of New Zealand, the silver fern, behind our business and signifies to travellers we are professional and trustworthy and lets them know they can count on us to deliver an experience that will meet or exceed their expectations. We were Qualmark accredited for more than 12 years before we changed our trading name from Mountain Air to Fly My Sky. The assessors look beneath the surface for deeply ingrained customer focused practices in all areas, including this year our attitudes and actions towards caring for New Zealand’s environment. Fly My Sky has also gained a first in New Zealand’ indeed a World First by fitting the latest in electronic glass panel avionic equipment available on the market into a Britten Norman Islander.
This is a world first’ fitting in a 10 seat aircraft and follows rigorous regulatory ground and air testing. In 1995 and 1996 the company won the Malcolm Baldrige Business Development Quality Award in the Central North Island and won the NZ Business Development Quality Award in 1996 and 1997. In 1997 the NZ Ministry of Commerce sponsored Keith and Robyn on a study tour of USA Quality Award winning companies. Tourism New Zealand awarded the company the Best Small Operator Award in 1996 and it was a finalist in the Transportation and Touring Section of the New Zealand Tourism Awards in 1997 and 199
